The Story of
DRESS FOR FREEDOM
One film changed everything. In it a girl, newly freed from slavery, took her own life. Despite her new freedom, she held no hope for the future. Amanda Prussak knew at that moment she had to do something. Using her education from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. In 2011 Prussak designed a clothing collection for a fashion show to raise support for an anti-trafficking organization.
Dress for Freedom’s inaugural collection was designed in 2015 and production began in 2017, made possible by investors who believed in its mission and vision. One of the first seamstresses was a woman who was given training to advance from sewing curtains to creating clothing of the highest quality, using techniques employed by the worlds foremost fashion labels. She went on to get a bachelor’s degree in fashion, demonstrating the transformation of women’s lives which is at the heart of the company’s values.
Dress for Freedom believes that true beauty is based on a women’s inner beauty, who she is from the inside being manifested outwardly highlighting the unique purpose for which she was created. The distinctive inner beauty of each woman is the inspiration for our designs. The beauty for each woman shines more brightly than the atrocities which are committed against so many. We believe that creating high-quality, beautiful fashion enhances the beauty not only in the women that wear our designs but also those whose lives are improved because of our commitment to using resources to better the lives of every woman we encounter. We believe that the deep inward beautify of women points to God’s continuous re-creation of beauty in all humanity.
Dress for Freedom has launched six collections with sales expanding most throughout southern Brazil. Amount their recent achievements was the launch of a colleciton of fashion t-shirts for women, produced by an organization employing immigrants in Brazil living on the margins of society. A particularly gratifying moment came when Vogue Brazil featured the brand in an online edition.
